who am i?
Qualified professional passionate about swimming
UK:
• Swim England swimming coach: ongoing
• Swim England assistant swimming coach: June 2018
• ASA Level 1 & 2 swimming teacher: April 2018
France:
• Master degree in sport sciences specialized in swimming biomechanics: 2015
• ERASMUS Intensive Programme “Routine & Cutting-edge Technologies in Physical Activity: Implication for Health & Sport Performance”: 2014
• Degree in sport sciences specialized in coaching (focused on swimming): 2013
• Level 3 Federal swimming coach: 2013
• French qualification for lifeguarding, swimming teaching and coaching (Brevet d’état d’éducateur sportif du premier degré option activités de la natation known as BEESAN): 2011
Since I started swimming 23 years ago, my involvment in it has never stopped. I have been teaching swimming for the last 8 years in France, more recently in the UK. I was in charge of swimmer squads (age 9 – 13) at “Olympique Club Cesson-Sévigné natation” for 3 seasons from 2010 to 2013. Two of these swimmers went to inter-regional finals of their age group in 2013. In 2012 and 2014 I was a part of the coaching staff at “Ille et Vilaine” departmental selection of swimmers (36 swimmers). I was also in charge of stroke video analysis, preparing this squad for the French national cup of departments for age 11-13 category.
Later, on my masters degree internship with the Research and Performance Enhancing department of the French Swimming Federation (2013 – 2015), I learnt a lot about high level competitive swimming. I have seen and have been using advanced techniques of training assessment and monitoring swimming performance. I have 6 years of experience on how to use video feedback with swimmers.
I have put together my own video recording system after a few years of selecting the best equipment. Thanks to it, I am able to record you swimming under different angles – underwater, on top of the water or both combined, so you can take the most out of this method. It is a great opportunity to quickly improve your technique by reducing drag, improving your body position in the water, and ultimately develop better propulsion strategies.
On one hand, swimming is a survival skill, on the other, olympic sport discipline. That being said, I believe that a good professional coach in this discipline should be able to teach all the spectrum of swimmers, from total beginner to experts, like competitive swimmers. It is important not to forget, where every athlete started. Swimming is one of the most popular sports in the world and yet, in my opinion, too few people take swimming lessons (after their childhood) to get advices on their swimming technique and how to improve it. For competitive swimmers, in addition to physiological training induced by regular swimming, technique development is essential to reach the next level of performance and stay away from injuries.

What do I do?
I’m doing quite a few different things; In addition to running SWAN, I’m working part time as a lifeguard at the University of Bristol swimming pool, and part time as swimming coach at the Bristol Henleaze swimming club. As you can see nothing really far from the aquatic activities! Being a lifeguard I spend a lot of time observing people swimming, and very often I surprise myself analyzing people’s stroke and how I could help them to improve their technique: Occupational hazard I suppose! Anyway if perchance you chose to come for a swim at the University of Bristol swimming pool and I’m on shift, don’t hesitate to ask me a few tips about your stroke, I’ll be more than happy to help.
The other part of the time I’m managing SWAN, organizing swimming clinics for people seeking to improve their stroke and become more efficient in their swimming by analyzing their technique, turns, starts, underwater phases… It’s now almost 4 years that SWAN kicked off and so far I had a several good experiences, not only in competitive swimming, triathlon and open water, but I had the opportunity to work with the ASA synchro talent squad of synchronized swimming.
If you’re searching for a way to have technical feedback for your athletes and coaching an aquatic sport in which what happens underwater is as important as what happens on top of the water then get in touch and I’ll see what I can do for you!

Had my first video session with Mickaël this morning. Mickaël’s poolside analysis allowed me to appreciate the issues with my stroke that I wasn’t aware of and how they were affecting my swimming. Hos communication of these was spot on and helped me appreciate the changes I would like to make over the next few weeks. I’m really looking forward to my next few sessions with him and am confident we will further perfect my technique. I think seeing the way you swim from many different angles is an amazing tool!
